Our first item is in English: The Hungry Stones -- an iconic story by Rabindranath Tagore which delves into the mysterious and the other-worldly. An unsuspecting tax-collector chances upon a rather romantic looking relic of a palace, built hundreds of years ago as a seraglio, and gets quite fascinated with it as he starts to use it as his quarters. After a first few nights, he begins to have visions of some its original inhabitants. We suspect the audience will wait breathlessly to find out how he finally escapes his tryst with this stone giant "frought with peril."
After a short break, we will present our second drama -- "The Critic" -- a comedic satire in its original Bengali (with synopsis, foreword & supertitles in English) penned by a renowned post-Tagore era playwright Monoj Mitra -- who passed away just a few months ago. This is our way of commemorating him.
A good-for-nothing individual who spent his entire life doing nothing worthwhile but critqued everyone around him finally kicks the bucket and arrives at the Pearly Gates. He succeeds in criticizing and upsetting the Lord God and his Assistant, making them rather unsure of themselves. The drama ends with an unexpected twist
